I enjoy the wintertime and prefer to have a choice of staying indoors and not forced to because of having a cold.  Now with two little munchkins to care for I’ve pulled out my Quick Fix Remedies to help keep me going and I want to share them with you.  Here are a few things I highly recommend you keep on hand to Cold-Proof your winter.  Enjoy!
  1. ELDERBERRY
These are a good source of flavonoids including quercetin and the anthocyanins.  I LOVE this fruit because these flavonoids have significant anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects and can activate immune cells that help the body to fight off viruses.  Be gone cold!   Sambucol is a great brand.  You can get it at any health food store.  It’s best to take it before you have a full-blown cold.   By the way, it tastes DELICIOUS!
  2. THE ULTIMATE COLD-PROOF BLEND
Blend all of the following ingredients (add water too) in a blender until nice and smooth!  Take 1 Tablespoon up to 3 times daily.  Yep, it’s that simple!

Lemon
Bacteria and viruses that cause cold and flu symptoms thrive in an acidic environment in the body, due to excess stress and unhealthy foods and lifestyle.
Drinking lemon water has an alkalizing effect on the body.

Raw Honey
Immune boosting and great for soothing coughs!
Add this to sweeten the flavor.

Onions
Known for both their anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties.

Radishes
These are full of Vitamin C  and have anti-congestive properties, which can offer relief from respiratory conditions such as coughs, bronchitis and asthma.   They are also antiseptic, which means they may protect against respiratory infections.

Garlic
A.K.A. The Mucous Buster.  In regards to fighting colds it is a decongestant and has anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties.

Watercress
Rich in vitamin C, which has an anti-inflammatory action and can help prevent or relieve the symptoms of cold, flu and other types of inflammation.

Last but not least, GET SOME SLEEP!   Make the time for it and your body will thank you!

Enjoy,
Cynthia

My husband is from the islands and is always trying to give me this stuff when I have the sniffles. Good to know it really is recommended!
